6 WEEK PROGRAMS

CONTEMPORARY DANCE PROGRESSIVES

Previously known as BO’S BASICS, the Contemporary Dance Progressives include a little bit of everything! In addition to technical exercises, we learn a combo and film it in small groups on the last day, with ample time to finesse and practice.

  • Participants will be added to a WhatsApp group chat and sent videos of class exercises for optional further practice, in addition to videos of all choreography. 

    Includes:

    • 6 x 2-hour Classes:

      • Targeted warm-up

      • Centre practice

      • Across the floor progressions 

      • Combo: taught over 2-3 classes

    • 1 x Personal Feedback via WhatsApp Voicenote

    • Professional Video Footage of Combo

    • Digital Welcome Booklet

    • Goal Setting + Journal Prompt Booklet

  • Beginner/Intermediate Dancers:

    • This is your level if:

      • You primarily train in other styles (heels, jazz funk, pole, etc.) and want to strengthen technical elements including leg lines, turns, balance, alignment/posture, and jumps, and/or;

      • You take multiple drop-in dance classes a week and excel at picking-up/following along with choreography, but struggle to fully/safely execute technical elements, and/or;

      • You are a former recreational or part-time competitive dancer who misses the environment, community, and practice of technique class

    • Dancers in this level likely:

      • Opt for a balance in rétiré or single pirouette

      • Feel most comfortable in first or second position

      • Keep most extensions below 90 degrees

    Intermediate/Advanced Dancers:

    • This is your level if:

      • You are an emerging/pre-professional dance artist looking for a weekly modern/contemporary technique class, and/or;

      • You are a current competitive dancer (15+) looking to complement your current training schedule, and/or;

      • You are a former competitive dancer who misses the environment, community, and practice of technique class

    • Dancers in this level likely:

      • Opt for a strong single or double pirouette

      • Feel comfortable working from fifth position

      • Have extensions that usually reach 90 degrees or higher

4 WEEK DROP-IN SERIES

ABSOLUTE BEGINNER CONTEMPORARY

Join Bo for an introductory level session designed for those brand new to dance or contemporary. Expect to meet new friends, try something a little different each week, and dip your toes into the art of contemporary dance with lots of laughs along the way!

  • The short class duration and simplicity of material make this a perfect drop-in class and a stepping stone to try more classes with MING MVMT or elsewhere in the city. 

    Includes:

    • 4 x 1-hour and 15-minute classes

      • Short Warm-Up

      • Simple combo - different each week!

    • Can be taken as Single Drop-in OR 4-Class Series

  • Absolute Beginner is perfect for ANYONE who is interested in trying contemporary dance! No previous experience is needed in any style. Class moves gently, which also makes it a great starting point for those looking to begin moving their bodies in service of self-expression and exploration. 

10 WEEK CREATION PROCESS

CREATION LAB 2.0

This 10-week program culminates in an invited work-in-progress showing of 14 new, short works, crafted over the course of the program with two guest choreographer feedback sessions, featuring Julia Cratchley and Shawn Bracke.

This program is designed to explore the process of contemporary choreography using a variety of methodologies to craft unique and organic movement compositions.

    • Weekly creative exploration

    • Space to play, create, and connect with like-minded peers in a community-centric space

    • Opportunity to rapidly iterate short works and phrases in a low/no stakes environment

    • Personal feedback from guest choreographers: Shawn Bracke and Julia Cratchley

    • 3 Choreographed/Collaboratively Choreographed Works:

      • 1 solo

  • Advanced/Professional Dancers:

    • This is your level if:

      • You are currently enrolled in or have graduated from a post-secondary dance program, and/or;

      • You are currently working/have experience working as a professional contemporary dance  artist, and/or;

      • You are actively training with the consistency required to, and intention of, pursuing a career as a professional dancer

    *Professional is defined in this context as receiving financial compensation for your work as a contemporary dance artist; if none of the above statements align with your experience but you believe this level to be the right fit for you, please reach out to discuss. I am always happy to help ensure we find the right fit for your level and goals!

PERFORMANCE
PROGRAMS 2026

It’s happening!! Take the stage with MING MVMT’s inaugural performance on JUNE 6, 2026! Each class will learn and perform TWO contrasting pieces of choreography designed to entertain, inspire, and share our collective love of dance with an audience.

    • 12-hours of rehearsal/class to learn 2 pieces of contemporary choreography

    • 2 performances in June show (2-3 minutes in length, depending on level)

    • Video breakdowns of all choreography taught,with counts and music

    • 2 costumes

  • Beginner

    • This is your level if:

      • You have less than 2 years of dance experience in any genre and want to understand and develop your technical foundations, such as weight transfer, balance, alignment, and small jumps, and/or;

        • You take a couple drop-in dance classes a month and want to improve your ability to pick-up choreography, while also developing foundational technique, and/or;

        • You did a few years of dance in your childhood and are excited to try dancing again with a new, welcoming, and encouraging community

    Beginner/Intermediate

    • This is your level if:

      • You primarily train in other styles (heels, jazz funk, pole, etc.) and want to strengthen technical elements including leg lines, turns, balance, alignment/posture, and jumps, and/or;

      • You take multiple drop-in dance classes a week and excel at picking-up/following along with choreography, but struggle to fully/safely execute technical elements, and/or;

      • You are a former recreational or part-time competitive dancer who misses the environment, community, and practice of technique class

    Intermediate

    • This is your level if:

      • You regularly take at least 1 contemporary, modern, or ballet class a week and have a strong technical foundation upon which you’re ready to build and strengthen, and/or;

      • You are a current part-time or recreational dancer looking to complement your current training, and/or;

      • You are a former competitive dancer who trained at a moderate/high level and miss the environment, community, and practice of dance class

  • Our Tuesdays night classes are often available on a drop-in basis and run from 6:00 - 7:15PM.

  • Currently, we rent space from a mix of venues to run our programs and classes. We are most frequently at Dovercourt House (a 5-minute walk from Ossington Station) up on the 3rd floor.

  • For 6-Week Progressives, you will receive videos in the group chat of any choreography done that day. For ALL programs and offerings, please note that there are NO CREDITS offered for unattended classes under any circumstances and all purchases are non-refundable. For Performance Programs, missed classes may result in removal from sections of the dance in efforts to ensure the pacing of the program remains on track. For The Creation Lab, attendance carries higher stakes due to the fast paced nature of the program, the professional level, and impact of your absence on others. As such, attendance is strongly encouraged and the responsibility to catch up on any missed time/material falls soley to you 🙏🏼
